London Tramlink is an arm of Transport for London, which manages the second generation of tram services within London, UK. Current and planned tram systems are:
- Tramlink operates a four-route system in the area of South London around Croydon. An extension to Crystal Palace is currently proposed.
- Cross River Tram is a proposed new system in Central London from King's Cross and Camden to Peckham and Brixton; however, this project is currently on hold for lack of funding.
A scheme called City Tram has been proposed by the City of London [citation needed], linking Battersea and Hackney via Elephant and Castle and The City, but does not appear in any of TfL's transport plans.
Croydon Tramlink
The current tram system has only been in operation since May 2000, although previously a service ran along the A23 up until 1951.[1]
Croydon Tramlink has 38 stops along 27 kilometres (17 mi) of track.[2] The system currently has 24 'Flexity Swift' trams in operation.
The tram tracks around Croydon follow 3 main spurs to Beckenham Junction, Wimbledon and Addington, and includes a one-way loop going around Croydon Town Centre where the trams arrive roughly every 1 to 6 minutes.[3]
