Lohnstorf is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
History
Lohnstorf is first mentioned in 1148 as Lonestrof. In 1279 it was mentioned as Lonstorf.[3]
Geography
Lohnstorf has an area, as of 2009, of 1.8 km2 (0.69 sq mi). Of this area, 1.66 km2 (0.64 sq mi) or 92.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.03 km2 (7.4 acres) or 1.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.12 km2 (30 acres) or 6.7% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.02 km2 (4.9 acres) or 1.1% is either rivers or lakes.[4]
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.3% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.3%. 1.1% of the total land area is heavily forested. Of the agricultural land, 57.8% is used for growing crops and 29.4% is pastures, while 2.8% is used for orchards or vine crops and 2.2% is used for alpine pastures. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.[4]
The municipality and village or Lohnstorf are located in the Gürbetal (Gürbe valley) near Längenberg mountain.
Demographics
Lohnstorf has a population (as of 31 December 2012) of 218.[1] As of 2007, 2.2% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 12.3%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (99.0%), while the last 1% speaks French.
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 57.4% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (13.3%), the FDP (12.2%) and the Green Party (9.8%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 27.1% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 54.8% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 18.1%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. In Lohnstorf about 78.1% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Lohnstorf has an unemployment rate of 0.88%. As of 2005, there were 42 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 15 businesses involved in this sector. 9 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 2 businesses in this sector. 22 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 5 businesses in this sector.[5] The historical population is given in the following table:[3]
