The Live Alive Tour was the eighth worldwide concert tour by blues band Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Staged in support of the album Live Alive, the tour visited arenas and amphitheaters from 1986 through 1989. The tour had four legs and 149 shows, beginning in Towson, Maryland on November 22, 1986 and ending in San Diego on April 20, 1989, being the longest tour that the band has ever did. The first three legs alternated between the United States and Canada, before the next leg visited Europe. After the first leg of the tour took place in indoor arenas, the final three legs visited more outdoor amphitheaters. The band's 1989 album In Step was recorded during a break in the tour, expanding on many songs that were played during the latter part of 1988.
Background
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's previous tour in Europe had scheduled tour dates that were canceled, due to Vaughan and bassist Tommy Shannon's drug rehabilitation. They completed treatment in November and went back on the road for the Live Alive Tour.
