Liv Garfield

Olivia "Liv" R. Garfield (born c.1976) is an English businesswoman. She is the chief executive of Openreach, a BT Group business, and is due to become the chief executive of Severn Trent from February 2014.

Career

Olivia Burgess was raised in Harrogate.[1] Her parents, who were originally from Liverpool, run a project management and engineering business in Harrogate called Brentwood Design Partnership.[1] She was educated at Birklands Belmont School (now Belmont Grosvenor) in Birstwith near Harrogate, followed by Bootham School in York.[2] She read German and French at New Hall, Cambridge.[1]

After graduating, she spent a year working at the British Consulate in Brussels.[3] She then worked at Accenture as a consultant in their communications and high-tech market division for six years.[4] In 2003, she joined BT as general manager, running a desk-based sales team.[4] She later became BT's director of strategy and regulatory affairs.[4] In 2011 she was made chief executive of their Openreach division.[5] In that position, she spearheaded and oversaw the £2.5 billion rollout of fibre broadband to two thirds of the UK.[4] In Spring 2014, she will join Severn Trent as chief executive.[4]

Since February 2013 she has been a non-executive director at Tesco.[4]

Personal life

Her husband Morgan Garfield, who she met at university, runs a property investment fund.[2] She has two sons and a brother. As of 2013, she lives in London.[3]
