Hashim Amla has scored 32 centuries for South Africa.[1]

Hashim Amla is a cricketer who represents the South Africa national cricket team.[2] He has scored centuries (100 or more runs in a single innings) in Test and One Day International (ODI) matches on 20 and 12 occasions respectively.[3][4] As of April 2013, he has played 71 Tests and 84 ODIs for South Africa, scoring 5,913 and 4,041 runs respectively.[2] Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott once said about him that "he bats in a way that gives very little hope for the bowlers" and "he plays the same way at the start of his innings as he does at the end of it".[5]

Amla made his Test debut against India at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, in 2004.[6][7] His first century came two years later against New Zealand at the Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town.[8] His score of 311 not out, against England at The Oval, London, in 2012, is the only triple century by a South African batsman in Test cricket.[9][10][11] Amla has scored Test centuries at thirteen cricket grounds, including seven at venues outside South Africa.[12][13] He has scored his nineteen Test centuries against six different opponents; he is most successful against India, making five. As of 2013, Amla is fourth in the list of Test century-makers for South Africa.[14]

Amla made his ODI debut in 2008 against Bangladesh at the Chittagong Divisional Stadium, Chittagong.[15] His first century came in the same year against the same team at the Willowmoore Park, Benoni.[16] His highest ODI score is 150 runs against England at the Rose Bowl, Southampton in 2012.[17] Amla is the fastest batsman to reach 2,000, 3,000 and 4,000 in ODIs, taking 40,57 and 81 innings respectively to do so.[18][19] He has played 15 Twenty20 International (T20I) matches, without scoring a century,[20] his highest score being 47 not out.[2] As of 2013, Amla is twenty-seventh in the list of century-makers in international cricket, all formats of the game combined.[n 1]
