Lisa Lavie (surname pronounced lah-vee) is a Canadian singer and songwriter originally from LaSalle, Québec, Canada.

Lavie's early musical influences included her older brothers, hip hop dancer Michael and disk jockey Danny.[1] At age 16 Lavie toured Canada as a backup singer with the French-Canadian hip hop group Dubmatique, after which she recorded her own demo CD.[1] Lavie's demo CD reached the same producer who had co-written Mariah Carey's first album, and Lavie accepted his invitation to move to California to work with him.[1]

In 2006, Lavie's vocals were included on the soundtracks of the motion pictures Stick It [2] and The Guardian.[3]

In 2007, Lavie began to use the Internet to reach fans and arouse interest of record labels.[4] By October her music video "Angel" was featured on YouTube's front page[1] and became a finalist in the 2007 YouTube Awards music category,[5] Lavie's discovery and video views being noted beyond YouTube itself.[6]

Lavie was one of the first artists to use YouTube to promote her own music before releasing an album.[7] In Lavie's first album, the independently produced Everything or Nothing (2008),[8] Lavie was credited as writing or co-writing all of the lyrics and melodies, including solo songwriter/composer on three tracks.[9] One reviewer wrote that the album's diversity of genres makes the collection feel "erratic, jarring, and difficult to relate to in its entirety," but that Lavie "nails each style with ease, and displays mastery over many different flavored tracks, solidifying her as a true singer."[8]

In February 2010, Lavie produced and performed in the charity collaboration video "We Are the World 25 for Haiti (YouTube edition)" for relief of victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake,[10] with Diane Sawyer naming the video's contributors ABC News' "Persons of the Week."[11]

Since 2010 Lavie has been a vocalist of contemporary instrumentalist Yanni on his tours,[12] contributing vocal tracks to Yanni's 2012 live-concert CD/DVD[13] and PBS special,[14] Yanni Live at El Morro, Puerto Rico.
