Lingya District

Lingya District (Chinese: 苓雅區; pinyin: Língyǎ Qū) is one of the districts of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is geometrically located in the center of Kaohsiung. The Tuntex Sky Tower and the Kaohsiung City Hall are located here. There are about 187,374 people in Lingya District as of March 2007.[1]
Name
The district is name after a traditional community which was called "Lingyaliao" (苓雅寮; pinyin: Língyǎliáo; pe̍h-oē-jī: Lêng-ngá-liâu). And the community was combined with "Guotianzi" (過田子), "Lingdeguan" (林德官), and "Wukuaicuo" (五塊厝) to form the Lingya District after 1945.
