Linear Air is a private part-135 charter operator and air taxi service headquartered near Boston in Concord, Massachusetts. Linear Air's primary operations base is located at Hanscom Field (ICAO: KBED) in Bedford, Massachusetts, and the company also operates from a base at Westchester County Airport (ICAO: KHPN) in White Plains, New York.

In 2004, Linear Air began an operation focused on addressing demand between the large market for commercial air travel and the very small market for private air travel. With a fleet of six Eclipse 500 very light jets, Linear Air primarily serves the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, as well as Eastern Canada.

History

The company was co-founded in the summer of 2004 by President and CEO William Herp, and noted aviator Michael Goulian. With the help of an initial round of funding and just two employees at the time, Linear Air began operating a turboprop aircraft in the emerging air taxi industry. As a founding member of the Air Taxi Association, Linear Air and other member air taxi operations are speeding the adoption of the air taxi model to make it available to an increasing number of businesses and individuals.[1]

Destinations

Linear Air can currently fly to hundreds of locations in the United States, as well as Eastern Canada. With its bases in Massachusetts and New York, the company offers travel options to major metropolitan areas on the east coast as well as smaller, more convenient airports closer to passenger destinations. The company also provides a tool on their website where visitors can obtain an estimated price and itinerary for private charter services.[2]

Fleet & Flight Operations

Linear Air currently operates a fleet of Eclipse 500 very light jets. Manufactured by Eclipse Aviation, the Eclipse 500 is a member of a growing very light jet (VLJ) aircraft category. In addition to seating two pilots, the business jet can accommodate up to four passengers with luggage. The plane is powered by two lightweight Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F turbofan engines.

Linear Air recently debuted an upgraded Eclipse 500 in early 2010, the first to be certified for Flight Into Known Icing (FIKI) capability, allowing for all-weather operation.[3] The company currently maintains a gold rating for safety from Aviation Research Group (ARGUS), which it announced in early 2006.[4]

Prior to taking delivery of its Eclipse jets, the company previously operated executive-configured Cessna Grand Caravans. The Cessna Grand Caravan is a turboprop jet engine aircraft with its engine manufactured by Pratt & Whitney.
