Linda Papadopoulos
Linda Papadopoulos (born February 3, 1971) is a Cypriot-Canadian psychologist based in England.[1] She is the author of numerous academic texts such as Psychodermatology, Becoming a Therapist, Psychological Approaches to Dermatology and several popular psychology texts including The Man Manual, What Men Say what Women Hear, which look at gender differences in relationships and Mirror Mirror: Dr. Linda's Body Image Revolution, a book on using CBT to promote healthy body image.
Career
Born in Toronto, Canada on February 3, 1971, Linda Papadopoulos is of Greek Cypriot descent. She gained a BA degree in Psychology from York University in Toronto, Canada, an MSc in Health psychology from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom and a PhD in Psychology from City University in London.[2]
Apart from regular television and radio appearances, Papadopoulos is currently heading up a large-scale study into the psychological effects of skin disease in collaboration with dermatologists from St. Thomas’ hospital.[citation needed] She has published in the field of counseling and medical psychology[citation needed] and been nominated for the Annual Counseling Psychology Award 2001 by the British Psychological Society. She has been invited to present her research at international conferences.[citation needed]
Papadopoulos has written for magazines such as Healthy Food Guide, Tonic Magazine and Time on Line. She is a familiar face on British and American reality television series, such as Big Brother, Double Cross, This Morning, GMTV (UK morning talk shows), Celebrity Fit Club and the BBC News, CNN, Sky News. She has also written for BBC News on mental health.[3]
From 5 July to 7 July 2006, she filled in for Anna Raeburn on London's LBC 97.3 FM.
On 28 December 2009 she appeared on Celebrity Mastermind, answering questions on the band Nirvana. She won the specialist knowledge round and placed 3rd overall with a score of 26 points, losing to Stuart Maconie. An interesting fact is the BBC actually misspelled her surname on the shows graphics as Papadopolous instead of the correct spelling of Papadopoulos.
In 2010 she was commissioned by the home office to write a review on the effects of sexualisation on young people. The review provided recommendations for government some which have already been implemented- the review is available on line.[4]
On 3 June 2010 she appeared on BBC One's political programme This Week to discuss the then-recent shooting spree in Cumbria, carried out by Derrick Bird.
Dr Linda has recently finished filming My Naked Secret 2 for Discovery. The series tells the personal stories of people who are hiding physical abnormalities underneath their clothes and make-up and Dr Linda helps each of the people embark on a transformative and emotional journey in search of acceptance of their body. The series has already aired in the USA and will air in the UK in 2013.
