Fitchburg Line

Lincoln is a passenger rail station on MBTA Commuter Rail's Fitchburg Line.[2] It has an unusual layout that can be confusing to anyone who is not familiar with it. There are 2 tracks and 2 side platforms which are both alongside the outbound track. The two platforms are separated by Lincoln Rd. and about 100 feet of space. The south platform is used for inbound passengers, and there are two asphalt patches that cross the outbound track from which the passengers board. It is configured exactly the same way as Prides Crossing on the Newburyport/Rockport Line. The north platform is for outbound trains and passengers. Outbound trains run past the south platform without stopping.

Unusual platform layout

Lincoln station is approximately 30 minutes from North Station on express trains, and 40 minutes on those stop at inner-belt stations. Scheduled time is approximately 50 minutes between Fitchburg and Lincoln. All Fitchburg Line trains stop except for a small number of weekday expresses.[3]
