Lina Teoh
Lina Teoh (born c. 1977) won the Miss Malaysia World 1998/1999 pageant and represented Malaysia in the Miss World 1998 contest in Mahe Island, Seychelles where she finished third,[1] behind winner Linor Abargil of Israel and runner up Véronique Caloc of France. It is the highest achievement ever by a Malaysian contestant at the Miss World pageant (through 2010).
Lina is now a passionate documentary filmmaker, actress, TV host and emcee. She has produced and directed world-class documentaries for international broadcasters such as the National Geographic Channel, the Discovery Channel and the BBC. Her production credits include the award winning “Great Apes of Asia with Michelle Yeoh” (Producer, 2009), “A Leaders Legacy: Tun Abdul Razak” (Producer, 2010), “The Lion Dance King” (Director/Producer/Writer, 2007) and “Mega Structures: Smart Tunnel” (Associate Producer, 2008). Lina is a supervising producing for the Malaysian Film board’s (Finas) “Malaysia to the World 2011” initiative and has been chosen to participate in Crossing Borders 2011 - a Eurasia-Pacific documentary training programme. She is also in production for a new History Channel documentary to be aired later this year (Director/ Producer/ Writer).
In 2010, Lina launched Running Water Documentaries — a production company specializing in crafting high quality documentaries for local, regional and international markets. Running Water Documentaries specializes in crafting a product from the beginning to final delivery including conceptualization, story development, research, pre-production, production and post production.
Growing up in Australia, originating from European and Asian descent and having had the opportunity to travel to many places around the world, Lina has a comprehensive understanding and rich experience of both cultures, giving her a unique approach and style to telling no fictional stories in a well balanced manner for our ever changing world.
Lina is also well known for her achievement of being crowned “Miss World 2nd Runner-up” (1998/99) - a first for Malaysia and the highest placement achieved by the nation until today. She is also popular for her award winning role as Susan in the English TV sitcom “Kopitiam”. Recently (2011) Lina returned to the stage to play the main role of “Annette” in the internationally acclaimed Tony award winning comedy play “God of Carnage”.
Also a popular face on Asian television for many years she has hosted numerous programs as well as presented a morning radio show for the national radio station RedFM. Also a well sort after personality on the emcee circuit, Lina has been emceeing for numerous prestigious companies and events since 2003 and recently returned as the event emcee for this year’s ATP 250 Malaysian Tennis Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011 in September.
