Music career
2011: Formation
Before forming Lilygreen & Maguire both members were heavily involved in music. Jon Lilygreen was Cyprus' 2010 entry to the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo[3] and Jon Maguire was producing music and a former member of Pop Punk band The Story So Far.[4][5] Also, they were both in the band Editions. The pair met while Lilygreen was performing covers at an open mic night at the Kama Lounge in Newport.[6][7]
2012-present: Have a Good Time All the Time
In 2012 Lilygreen & Maguire have supported Olly Murs and Westlife on their UK arena tours.[8] The duo also did an open-air busking tour of Wales, stopping at Bangor, Wrexham, Aberystwyth, Carmarthen, Swansea, Barry, Caerleon, Caerphilly, Cardiff and Newport.[9] In October 2012 they have supported Scouting For Girls on tour also. In November 2012, Lilygreen & Maguire announced via Twitter that they would be releasing a new single in 2013 called "Dear Photograph". The song was inspired by the blog Dear Photograph, which has amassed millions of hits and gained critical acclaim, rated #7 in Time Magazine's "50 Websites That Make The Web Great" in 2011.[10] They have teamed up with Taylor Jones who runs DearPhotograph.com to construct the music video.[11] They will release their debut studio album Have a Good Time All the Time on November 4, 2013 which will include previous singles, B-Sides and brand new songs.
Songwriting
As songwriters boys have worked alongside writers such as Gregg Alexander, Roy Stride, Peter Vettese, Ricky Ross and Karen Poole.[12] In September 2013, the band announced that they had co-written the latest Union J single, Beautiful Life and that it would be featured on the self titled album Union J.[13]
Breakup
Lilygreen and Maguire posted news of their split on their Facebook page on January 2nd 2014. The post stated that 2013 had been a tough year for the band and due to living apart from each other and the lack of a music label, the band could not continue to exist. Jon Maguire, who wrote the facebook post stated that he is going to miss being in a band with his best friend and he is also going to miss the support that he receives from their fan base. However, its not all bad news, Maguire also stated in the post that their will most likely be new music from both Lilygreen and Maguire in the future and to keep an eye out for that. Lilygreen and Maguire, although they were a relatively small group, they were a much loved group, meaning the news of the split has left fans devastated.
