Les McKeand

Les McKeand (17 September 1924 – 1950) was an Australian triple jumper who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics.[1]

Les McKeand represented Australia in the 1948 London Olympic Games and at the 1950 Empire Games. At the Olympics in the triple jump he jumped over 50 feet and was the first Australian to throw the javelin more than 200 feet. McKeand lost his life aged 26 in a tragic road accident outside Muswellbrook, NSW in 1950. McKeand had attended Sydney University from 1943-1948 and graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1949.
