Le Richemond first opened in 1875 as a family run pension under the name Le-Riche-Mont. The first owner Adolphe-Rodolphe Armleder was the son of a German maker of oak wine barrels.
After the second world war extensive renovations were made to the hotel to raise the standard to a luxury hotel. In 2004 after four generations of ownership the Armleder family sold the hotel to The Rocco Forte Collection. In 2011 the hotel was sold to Cedar Capital Management, who appointed Dorchester Collection to manage the hotel.
The hotel is listed as having one of the top ten most expensive suites, Armleder suite named after the Armleder family.
John Armleder, the Swiss artist was part of the family that owned this property and spent his early years at the hotel.
