On July 31, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI announced the appointment of bishop-elect Persico to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania. He was ordained to the episcopate in a liturgy on October 1, 2012 at the diocese's St. Peter Cathedral.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
