Laure Olga Gondjout (born 19 December 1953[1]) is a Gabonese politician. Since January 2011, she has been Secretary-General of the Presidency of Gabon.

Political career

Goundjout is the daughter of Paul Gondjout, another Gabonese politician.[1] She was appointed as Minister Delegate to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Jean Ping, in the government of Prime Minister Jean Eyeghe Ndong, named on January 21, 2006.[2][3] After nearly two years in that position, she was appointed as Minister of Communication, Posts, Telecommunications, and New Information Technologies in the government named on December 28, 2007.[3][4] Soon afterwards, Jean Ping was elected Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, and on February 4, 2008 Gondjout was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs to replace him.[3] She took office as Foreign Minister on February 6.[4]

In the April 2008 local elections, Gondjout headed the candidate list of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) in the third arrondissement of Libreville.[5]

Gondjout served as Foreign Minister for eight months. In the government appointed on October 7, 2008, she was moved back to her old position as Minister of Communication, Posts, Telecommunications, and New Information Technologies;[6] she was succeeded as Foreign Minister by Paul Toungui on October 9.[7]

Shortly after the death of President Omar Bongo at a Spanish hospital on 8 June 2009, Gondjout said that the constitution and the institutions of the Republic would be respected.[8]

President Ali Bongo, who eventually succeeded his father, initially retained Gondjout as Minister of Communication, but he subsequently moved her to the powerful post of Secretary-General of the Presidency on 14 January 2011.[9]
