What began as a revolutionary experiment in post primary education in Tasmania to create Launceston State High School (1913 - 1964), evolved into a college focusing on the needs of post year 10. As a college the name has changed from Launceston Matriculation College, then Launceston Community College to reflect its broader academic curriculum and vocational influence, to then be renamed Launceston College.
