Late Night Counsell or LNC is a late night conservative talk show hosted by John Counsell on the radio station CFRA in Ottawa, Ontario. Running weeknights from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm, it discusses various newsmaking stories of the day.
Late Night Counsell started broadcasting in Ottawa once a week from Brandon, Manitoba in the September 1998. The host then moved to Ottawa in 1999 and LNC started broadcasting in its current timeslot.[2]
In April 2012, the show moved time slots from 10pm to 9pm.
Format
The host John Counsell usually brings up a topic and asks callers to give their opinions. Callers are also allowed to bring their own topics to the show. Listeners to the show can also write short emails which Counsell will read on air.
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
There is no special programming on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.[3]
Wednesday
Every Wednesday is "Ask the Pastor Night" on Late Night Counsell. Counsell, a full-time pastor,[4] responds to all callers from a Biblical perspective.[5][6] This show is often a mix of current news and personal stories. The first hour of Ask the Pastor is re-aired Sunay mornings from 7:00 am to 8:00 am.
Friday
Fridays are known as "Freebie Fridays." The entire two hours of the show is devoted to a trivia radio show. Callers answer questions in various categories such as pop culture, science, and news stories. The more questions a caller answers correctly, the more times their name gets put into a ballot bucket. At the end of the show, a number of winners, usually two or three, are picked from the bucket to win a prize package.
Special Guests
Occasionally guests may appear on the show, and callers can interact with them.[7][8] For example, Uncle John from Uncle John's Bathroom Reader, has co-hosted a segment of Freebie Fridays.[9] Scientists such as Ian Clark, from the University of Ottawa, sometimes are guests who will discuss the skeptical side of Climate Change.[10] Every month, Counsell co-hosts with his wife Heather, who is a teacher, to discuss education and parenting.
