Lars Unnerstall (born 20 July 1990) is a German footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for FC Aarau in the Swiss Super League.

Club career

FC Schalke 04

Unnerstall began at the age of three years at SV Uffeln playing football before the stopover Green-White Steinbeck in 2005, the youth division of Preußen Münster changed. After three years in Münster, he joined Schalke 04 where he played for the U19 team. For the 2011/12 season coach Ralf Rangnick announced Unnerstall the new number 2 behind Ralf Fährmann. Unnerstall played the on 31 July 2011 in the first round of the DFB Cup against FC Teningen which was his debut in the senior team.[1] In October 2011 Unnerstall gained a new contract until June 2013.[2] On 15 October 2011 he made his Bundesliga debut at the 1-2 home defeat against 1. FC Kaiserslautern as an alternative for Fährmannn who was sent off. It turned out that Fährmann had suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the same game and he was not able to play for the rest of the season. His first Bundesliga game over the full season Unnerstall completed on the following day in a 1-0 away win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Despite the commitment of the experienced Timo Hildebrand in response to injury of Fährmann, Unnerstall remained the number one. On 3 August 2012 was Unnerstall's contract was extended for another three years until 30 June 2015[3] However, he lost his place for a short time as a result of an injury, so Hildebrand took his place. Unnerstall only returned after Hildebrand was injured again. All goalkeepers who played in this season (Fährmann, Unnerstall, Hildebrand and Mathias Schober) Unnerstall completed most games. For the 2012/2013 season Unnerstall was declared the number 2 behind Hildebrand. Shortly after the first round Hildebrand injured, so again Unnerstall returned into the goal. He also played despite Hildebrand's recovery. During the first round of the season he made several failures, which led to criticism and sometimes whistling while Schalke's home games. Finally, after 13 games he was replaced by Hildebrand. After a long time of several injuries he was only keeper number three behind Hildebrand and Fährmann.

FC Aarau

On 24 January 2014, Unnerstall was loaned out to Swiss club FC Aarau until the end of the 2013–14 season.[4]
