Langstaff Secondary School (LSS) is a public high school in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada which teaches grades 9 through 12. LSS is located at 106 Garden Avenue across the street from Morgan Boyle Park and near Charles Howitt Public School.

Facilities/layout

The school has two gymnasiums, one on the first floor and one on the second floor. The larger gymnasium doubles as an auditorium. The school's original library was converted into a multi-purpose room used for special-education services, and various classes. There are two portables at the back of the school used for classes. The school is split up into multiple halls, based on the subject. The English, geography, and math halls, as well as the cafeteria are located on the first floor. The science, technology, history and art halls are all located on the second floor, while music is located on the third. The school is fully wheelchair accessible, with ramps and a working elevator.

In 2003, the school underwent a major renovation. This doubled the size of the school, adding many new facilities for the growing student population.

Athletics

In 2006, the varsity boys baseball team captured the York Regional Championships. Langstaff has had a strong showing in tennis, the girls doubles team finishing top 8th in Ontario. Also in 2006 the junior boys soccer team came 2nd in the YRAA Tier II championships losing in shootout 2-1

In the winter of 2007, Langstaff put together a varsity men's hockey team. The team went undefeated in their inaugural season and won the YRAA Tier II championships.

2011-12 Volleyball: 0-40

In the 2011-12 season, Langstaff's volleyball teams (Junior/Senior, Boys/Girls) became the first school in the history of the YRAA that failed to win a single volleyball match. The four teams compiled a record of 0-40 in matches and 2-80 in games.[1]

Conspiracy Theories

There are many rumours of Langstaff having been a women's prison in the early 1900's. The students often claim that the school is haunted by the ghosts of the angry inmates. There is also a conspiracy theory that the school has a pool in the basement, but no one has been able to find the entrance and its existence is a controversial topic. The Occupy Movement is currently fighting for the rights to the documentation and blueprints of the whereabouts of said pool.
