Lalita Lajmi (born 1932, Kolkata) is a highly acclaimed Indian painter[1][2] .[3] She is the sister of Hindi film director, producer, and actor, the late Guru Dutt.
Career
She started painting in the early sixties,[4] when she participated in a group exhibition at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai.[5] At the same gallery she had her first solo exhibition in 1961.[5] Over a career spanning 5 decades, she had several exhibitions at both national and international platforms.[1][4]
She gave a guest appearance in Aamir Khan's 2007 Bollywood film, Taare Zameen Par. The protagonist of the movie, a 9 year old kid Ishaan struggles with his studies, but is shown to be an excellent painter. She has also worked as a graphics artist in Hindi movie Aghaat[6]
Her daughter, Kalpana Lajmi, is also a well-known Hindi film director.
