Lakhnadon is a town and a nagar panchayat in Seoni district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and the headquarters of lakhnadon janpad and tahsil. Bestly known for its export quality sagon woods and tobacco leaves (tendu patta). It is one of the oldest tehsils of Madhya Pradesh. Its the second big town in Seoni district. Being a sub-district place in Seoni district and also possesses many natural attractions.
History
The town is said to be named after a former ruler Raja Lakhan Kunwar. There is a belief among the locals that there is a palace of Kunwar inside Ranital lake, and its peak can be seen during the summer season, when the water level declines.
Geography
Lakhnadon is located at .[1] It has an average elevation of 607 metres (1991 feet). Its just a little far from the geographical centre of the Indian sub-continent. It lies in the south-west of jabalpur and north of seoni also neighbours narsinghpur by its west.[4] it is surrounded by sagon and tendu trees, that cover the town from all sides. [5]
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[2] Lakhnadon had a population of 14,343. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Lakhnadon has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 64%. In Lakhnadon, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Healthcare
The Lakhnadon Christian Hospital was started by the Christian missionary surgeon Dr D M Mac Donald from Scotland, to provide necessary medical care to the nearby villages and the needy population of the area. and new one arogyacity hospital&research center in lakhandon for Indian system of medicin with modern facilities started by dr. vivek kesharwani from April 1, 2012
Tourism
The tourist attractions in and around Lakhnadon include the Digamber Jain temple (Samnapur), Nehru park, Siddhbaba, Ranital, Chilachond dam, and Banjari temple.
