Lake Tahoma is a private lake in the mountains of Western North Carolina, United States, in McDowell County fed from the waters of Buck Creek, located about 5 miles from downtown Marion. Lake Tahoma is a private lake in which there is a ban on speedboats and jetskis.

There is a local legend about a ghost that haunts the Lake Tahoma Dam. Not able to deal with her pregnancy, legend has it that, on prom night, a teenaged girl jumped from the dam to her death. Today, she still haunts the dam. It is said that on prom night if one goes to the dam and places his keys on the hood of the car and then walks around it, when he returns, the keys will have disappeared. Ghost or not, Lake Tahoma is one of the most breathtaking places in America.[citation needed]
