Lachlan "Ron" Coote (born 6 April 1990) is an Australian rugby league player for the Penrith Panthers in the NRL. His position of choice is Fullback. A representative for New South Wales and Australia at junior level, Coote made his first grade debut in the 2008 NRL season.

Early career and personal life

Coote was raised in the Greater West of Sydney, attended Windsor High School and is a junior product of the Windsor Wolves.[1] A star performer at junior level, he has represented both New South Wales and Australian junior teams. After representing Australian Schoolboys and New South Wales Under-17s in 2007,[2] Coote was selected in the New South Wales Under-18 side to play in the curtain raiser to Game Two of the 2008 State of Origin series, scoring an impressive 14 points in the Blues' victory over Queensland.[3] In 2008, Coote played for the Penrith Panthers in the inaugural season of the National Youth Competition. A clear stand out performer for the Panthers, Coote scored 138 points in 12 games before becoming a fixture in the Panthers' first grade team.[4] Coote supplements his rugby league income by working as an apprentice greenkeeper at Centrebet Stadium.[5]

NRL career

After regular Panthers' fullback Rhys Wesser was ruled out with injury, Coote made his first grade debut on 27 June 2008 in the Round 16 clash with the Brisbane Broncos at CUA Stadium.[3] In the first draw of the 2008 season, Coote had an outstanding game, winning Man of the Match.[6] While Rhys Wesser returned from injury in the next game against the Parramatta Eels, Coote remained in the first grade side, being named as winger.

Coote had established himself as the first-choice Panthers fullback for the 2009 season, until a season-ending shoulder injury ruled him out.

In an effort to prevent further injury, Coote has added 10 kg of muscle to his frame in the off-season and will start season 2010 weighing in at 85 kilograms.

Throughout 2010 and 2011 Coote has been suffering from Osteitis Pubis which has kept him out through the end of 2010 and start of 2011

Coote played one of his best season during the 2012 NRL season, despite the Panthers finishing in second last place. In round 21, coach Ivan Cleary moved Coote from fullback to five-eighth, to find that Coote may have secured himself the No. 6 jersey for the 2013 NRL season.

In September 2013, Coote was released from his final year of his contract. He then signed a three year deal with the North Queensland Cowboys.
