La Deux – (Channel) Two – is a Belgian national television channel, owned and operated by the French-language public-service broadcasting organization RTBF.
History
On 26 March 1977, La Deux was launched as RTbis, broadcasting only repeats of RTBF1 programmes, and remained on air until 1979. In 1979, RTbis had replaced by Tele 2 (RTBF TV2) and on air until 1988.
On 21 March 1988, Télé 2 was replaced by Télé 21 and stayed on air under that name until 1993, when Télé 21 became RTBF 21 with two sub-channels sharing programming Arte 21 and Sport 21, both channels broadcast until 1 March 1997.
On 1 March 1997, RTBF Arte 21-RTBF Sport 21 became RTBF 21 completely and became more of an events channel, because of this several programming moved to a new channel called RTBF 2.
In September 2003, RTBF 21 stopped broadcasting and RTBF 2 was renamed to RTBF La Deux and had a new look, some months later in January 2004, La Deux changes its look and logo again and reorganizes its programming in complementarity with that like La Une. In December 2005, the channel switches to 16/9 format completely.
In 2007, La Une, La Deux, La Trois and RTBF Sat are the fout channels from the RTBF.
In 2011, the La Deux analogue transmitter ceased transmission in Wallonia. In Tournai, La Une and La Trois ceased transmission as well.
Programming
From 1977 to 2008, La Deux aired JT Soir.
As of 2008, La Deux officially aired Le 12 Minutes presented by Eric Boever, Tanguy Dumortier or Ophelie Fontana every night.
