Kuznetsk (Russian: Кузне́цк) is a town in Penza Oblast, Russia, located east of Penza and west of Samara and the Volga River. Population: 88,839 (2010 Census);[4] 92,050 (2002 Census);[8] 98,588 (1989 Census).[9]

Geography

Kuznetsk city located in Central Russia, in the eastern part of the Penza Oblast, mainly on the left bank of the River Truev, in the foothills of the Volga Uplands at an altitude of 254m above sea level, south of Sura Cones. Lands adjacent to the city, industrial minerals are not rich . Most abundant deposits of brick clay, loam and mineral pigments. [5] The deposits are concentrated in the vicinity of the city. Widespread sands. There are reserves of oil. Soil most of the city - leached chernozyom , except the northern part , where there are gray forest soils. The northern part of the city, blending smoothly into the pine forest, located on the hill called "Carpathians". The city is surrounded by large forests.

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Kuznetsk serves as the administrative center of Kuznetsky District, even though it is not a part of it.[1] As an administrative division, it is incorporated separately as the town of oblast significance of Kuznetsk—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[1] As a municipal division, the town of oblast significance of Kuznetsk is incorporated as Kuznetsk Urban Okrug.[2]
