Kurt Thomas Travis (born January 16, 1984) is an American singer, musician, and songwriter best known as the former vocalist of the band Dance Gavin Dance and current vocalist for the band A Lot Like Birds. Shortly following A Lot Like Birds's release, Conversation Piece in October 2011,[2] Travis also released a solo EP, on which he wrote and performed all of the material.[3] The record, entitled Wha Happen?, was released by Doghouse Records in January 2012.[4]

Musical career

2008: O! The Joy

2007–10: Dance Gavin Dance

In late 2007, Kurt Travis replaced Jonny Craig as the singer for the American post-hardcore band Dance Gavin Dance.[5] The band released two albums with the singer: one self-titled (also known as the "Death Star" album), and another titled Happiness.

On 18 August 2010, music news website Alternative Press announced Kurt's departure from Dance Gavin Dance via a press release from the band. He was replaced by the band's former vocalist Jonny Craig. The split was amicable, with Dance Gavin Dance officially stating "[they] and Kurt remain friends, and they wish Kurt the best in all of his future endeavors".[6]

However after the split, Kurt said he was deeply saddened and felt as if the split made the band seem only business, not family as he had thought.

2011–present: A Lot Like Birds

On January 9, 2011 A Lot Like Birds announced Kurt Travis would be joining as a second vocalist.[7] Since joining the band, they have released one album, Conversation Piece and embarked on a nationwide tour with Just Like Vinyl and Dance Gavin Dance. Due to Jonny Craig's inability to tour at this time, Kurt also sang for Dance Gavin Dance, sharing duties with Lower Definition singer Matt Geise.

Their new album, No Place, was released on October 29, 2013.
