Kuliyapitiya is a big town in Kurunegala District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka, governed by an Urban Council. The town is situated on 82 km away from Colombo. Kuliyapitiya is home to the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. Coconut and Paddy cultivation consists of the main economic activities in this area. The town centre includes commerce and retail enterprises.
Transport
The Kuliyapitiya bus station provides access to buses which arrive from and depart to other locations in Sri Lanka.Such as Kuliyapitiya to Colombo, Kuliyapitiya to Jaffna, Kuliayapitiya To Gampola, Kulyapitiya To Anuradhapura, Kuliyapitiya to Nuwaragala, Kuliyapitiya to Kalpitiya, Panduwasnuwara to Colombo via Kuliyapitiya, Kuliyapitiya to Puttlam via Nikaweratiya.Another bus services goes to Kurunegala,Negombo,Pannnala,Chilaw,Hettipola,Madampe,Bingiriya,Katupotha,Makandura etc..
Climate
The climate in Kuliyapitiya is fairly temperate and tropical all throughout the year. However during the month of April the temperature can rise up to about 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit). The only major change in the Kuliyapitiya weather occurs during the monsoons from May to August and October to January, this is the time of year where heavy rains can be expected. In general, temperatures experience during late November to mid February period are lower than the rest of the year.
Education
Education is delivered free of charge to all students of national schools, according to the government policy. These schools operate under the Provincial Council. There are also privately owned schools. And the university of Wayamba is in Kuliyapitiya. Wayamba University is the thirteenth national university in Sri Lanka. It was established in January 1999. The main purpose of the university is to offer a totally English medium Degree, Diploma and Certificate courses (both internal and external)on various areas such as agriculture, engineering and Management for students as well as professionals already engaged in various employments. The courses being offered are highly up-to-date and job-oriented.

Heritage
The main heritage sites and around Kuliyapitiya are ancient Kebelawa(Buddhist) temple and dewala, Panduwanuwara temple and ancient city, Angomuwa ancient Buddhist temple. The Kebelawa temple is located in one end of the Kuliyapitiya town,Paduwasnuwara ancient city is located by Chilaw-Kuliyapitiya road close to Hettipola town. And also Dandagomuwa Ancient Temle is located near to the Kuliyapitiya Town.
