iMAK
Interactive Media Applications (iMAK) at Krueger Middle School
Interactive Media Applications at Krueger is a magnet school program devoted to student multimedia creations and collaborative learning projects. The program began in the 2005- 2006 school year for sixth-graders and has expanded to seventh and eighth-grades. Like K-SAT, iMAK is located in Krueger Middle School. The program’s key focus is the extensive use of interactive media technologies such as, but not limited to, the following: video production, short film creation, digital photography, web publication, computer animation. iMAK students integrate the theory, practice and application of interactive media into their core subjects. iMAK uses a lottery system for student selection.
KSAT
Krueger School of Applied Technologies (KSAT) is a district-wide aerospace magnet school program for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders. It offers unique classes such as Robotics and Measurement, Applied Rocketry and Aviation, Applied Radio/Satellite Communication, and Applied Aerospace Studies. Launches for rockets and planes created by the students are held at school and also at other locations. The KSAT program incorporates all academic subjects into its set of courses. KSAT was put at Krueger to help boost the TAKS scores of the school.
Yearly Events
- School Fundraiser: Done usually around late August to mid-September
- Red Ribbon Week: A week-long drug-free program, usually done in mid to late October. Starting this year, the art students have made posters to hang up around the school. Some had classic slogans, like "Be drug free if you want to hang with me" and "Too cool for drugs". Others had some rather original quotes, like "When you do drugs... all your base are belong to us". Also, awareness bracelets are given out, which are a red-orange color, with the words "Live Drug Free" written on it. There are also daily contests during the week. The week featured Crazy Sunglasses day, Crazy Tie day, Crazy Slippers day, Crazy Hat day, and Crazy socks day, in the respective order. Prizes are given to the top students in the categories. There are also contests done in media, such as paintings, drawings, video skits, literature, "news broadcasts","public advisories", and poetry.
- Krueger Band UIL: This is done near the late March - mid April time for the bands of KMS.
- Academic UIL: Four sessions are held during the year; three practice sessions and a final championship session. This is done in late May. Subjects include, but are not limited to, Mathematics, Number Sense, Maps, Charts, and Graphs, Science, Social Studies, and Dictionary Skills.
Renovation
Starting during the summer of 2005, Krueger Middle school has had some renovations using a bond issued by NEISD, including a new 600 science wing. This has reduced the crowdedness of the classrooms, and has also allowed all the teachers to move into classroom who usually traveled across unoccupied classrooms. In April 2007, the science wing was opened and it included a plaque on the side of the new brick building.
Krueger has also added cameras due to all the graffiti put on the school. It has about 90 cameras located in different spots of the school.
Also, starting the summer of 2009, Krueger has added a fence around the concourse, installed air conditioning in the gyms, and began construction on a new building behind the cafeteria.
