Skeleton sled work

Nicknamed Doctor Ice by the British media because he earned a PhD from the University of Nottingham in 1999 with a thesis entitled "Factors affecting the performance of skeleton bobsleds".

He appeared in an episode of Discovery Channel's Building the Winter Games documentary, showing his preparation for the 2006 Winter Olympics, building his sled, and being introduced to the Cesana Pariol bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track for the first time.

Kristan races on sleds designed and produced with his brother Richard by their company, Bromley Technologies Ltd. In 2007, Kristan and the company relocated from Bath to the Sheffield area. Kristan trains at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield whilst the sleds are manufactured at the companies' base on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP).

Kristan is supported by Bromley Technologies' Formula Ice 2010 programme. This sponsorship funded, high performance sports engineering initiative operates in a similar way to a mini Formula One team and seeks to add value to athlete performance through technological innovation and expertise.
