Kotmale is a village in Sri Lanka. It is located within Central Province.

Kothmale is a wonderful & charming valley, a creation of Mother Nature, said by many a stream & water causes studded with forests & hills. The town is surrounded by grateful “Garadi Alla” falls where the stream runs down the hills like a rattle snake, and on the other side by “poona oya” Falls & the torrential “Ramboda falls” all seeding Kothmale reservoir brimming with its beauty. Once profile of our Sri Lankan culture is embedded in this place abounded by many a mountain pass & forest reserves inculcating the happiness & contentment as well as the sorrow of its Legendary inhabitance surrounded by their dark inheritance & varied life style. With delightful sight & scenery any where you set your eyes on, the area is situated within 3000 – 5200 feats above mean sea level. It is the Administrative division bounded, to the North by Nawalapitiya division secretary, to the South by Nuwaraeliya division secretary,to the East by Walapane & Hagurunketha division secretaries and to the west by Ambagamuwa division secretary. How the name of Kothmale sprung up………. Valley surrounded by many a mountain & hill,A golden pinnacle appeared in the place,All juicy fruits & plants covered the earth with their fragrance,It is how the name “Kothmale” came to be known The legend concerning formation of the name is given thus; as the harvest came from the field “Ketha” area was named Keth Wala and gradually came into Koth Wala – Koth Mala and finally Kothmale. The word “Mala” is said to be derived from Dravidian language, meaning hill or mountain. Further the area abounds with hills like pinnacle “koth” and it was named as “Kothmale” is the openion of sum section.
