Kosgoda

Kosgoda is a small coastal town located in Southern Province in Sri Lanka. The area of Kosgoda is home to a population of nearly 3000 people. The area is now becoming one of the most vibrant tourist areas in Galle District in Sri Lanka. There are reasons for this, the beautiful beaches, Kosgoda Lagoon (perfect place for watching birds and boat trips) and the only place in the country to see Turtles and Turtle hatcheries. The area itself has a lot more to offer to visitors.

Historical view

In the 18th century, the community lived here was traditionally associated with the cultivation, fishing and management of cinnamon. It is said to be in history the colonial period of Portuguese time the people lived here and associated with cinnamon planting had provided cinnamon as a tax to governors. In the present era everything has massively changed and the area of Kosgoda is now becoming one of the most dominant area for tourism industry in Galle District in Sri Lanka.
