Kongu express (Train Nos 12647/12648) is a superfast weekly train run by Indian Railways between Coimbatore city Junction and H.Nizamuddin. The train was named after the Kongu region of Tamil Nadu, called Kongu Nadu . The train made its inaugural run on 3 April 2000.

Service and Schedule

The train starts on Wednesdays from Nizamuddin, and on Sundays from Coimbatore, covering the total distance of 2,716 kilometres (1,688 mi) in approximately 47 hours.[1][2][3]

Route and Stations

This train passes through Bangalore, Secunderabad, Nagpur, Bhopal, Gwalior, Agra, with a total of 27 intermediate stations.The train had a route change in 2001, when instead of Jolarpettai, Renigunta, got changed via Bangalore.

Coach and Rake

The Kongu express has rake sharing arrangement with the (Train No 12681/2)Coimbatore – Chennai Central weekend express. Despite its long distance run of 47hours, the train continues to operate without a pantry car and food is get loaded onto the train at en-route stations.
