Kofi Karikari (c. 1837 – 1884),[1] was the ninth King of the Kingdom of Ashanti (King of the Ashanti) reigning from 28 May 1867 until his forced abdication on 26 October 1874.[2] A notable achievement of King Asantehene Kofi Karikari was the intentional neglect of the armed forces, a step taken to avoid the escalation of war.
Karikari's golden death mask, "pillaged from the royal mausoleum in Kumase by a British 'expedition' in the 1880s, can be found at the Wallace Collection in London".[1]
