Career

Startups

Klaus founded Arabian Modern Equipment Est. in Abu Dhabi in 1993 together with Saif Al-Suwaidi.[3] In 1996 they launched AME Info as a CD-ROM business directory as well as an online service for the Middle East. Klaus was one of the pioneers in mobile content for the region already in 1999 by developing Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) compliant content [4] and later in 2000 through a partnership with iSyndicate.[5]

In the early 2000 AME Info became one of the main online providers of business and financial information in and about the Middle East[6] and was the first online media in the region to be audited by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (UK) in 2005[7] and conducted regular audits[8] since then to pinpoint that the online media industry in the Middle East is genuine and measurable.

AME Info was awarded Superbrands status in the United Arab Emirates for the first time in 2005.[9][10]

In March 2005, HSBC Private Equity Middle East Ltd.[11][12] acquired a significant equity stake in AME Info FZ LLC and on the 4th of July 2006, London-based Emap plc (EMA.L) announced that Emap Communications, its business-to-business (B2B) division, acquired AME Info for a cash consideration of $24m with further deferred cash consideration payable of up to $5m.[13][14] [15]

Following its sale to EMAP Klaus founded RingtoneFeeder [16] with musician Geoff Smith in April 2008 with the aim to be a subscription based service where customers would receive 2 original ringtones every week via an RSS feed.[17] RingtoneFeeder got a fair bit of coverage particularly in the tech world in the US[18] and reached top positions in iTunes on multiple occasions.[19]

Klaus founded evershift in April 2011 to continue to make direct investments in technology companies, the first was a significant investment into APSU [20] - a merged managed services and infrastructure business in the UK. Klaus is representing evershift on the board of directors.[21] In 2012 Klaus also joined the advisory board on behalf of evershift in The Royalty Exchange.[22]

Investments

Klaus became an Investor in several companies including Wordy,[23] Everbread,[24] Oxis Energy, Gridiant, Malaysia.com[25][26] and seed investor in Tradeshift in 2009.[27] In 2009, he made the 'Top Angels' list on TechCrunch[28] with three deals of unknown value.

In 2011 the Telegraph[29] named him 55th most influential technology investor in Europe.
