Kirkmuirhill

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kirkmuirhill is a village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It borders Blackwood, near Lanark and is sited near Junction 9 of the M74 motorway. Its postal sector is ML11 9. There is a single primary school Bent Primary on the outskirts of the village, but a large proportion of pupils also attend Blackwood Primary School in the neighbouring village of Blackwood. There is also the denominational St. John's Primary there, which is a Roman Catholic primary school which has Kirkmuirhill within its catchment. There are no high schools in the village. When children reach secondary education, they normally attend high school in Lesmahagow, or Holy Cross Hamilton in the case of Catholic pupils from St. John's. Traditional industry in the village was mining, but this has long since declined. Unemployment is high with drug dealing and taking on the increase. This has helped some of the local take away restaurants thrive however with the increased appetites of regular cannabis users. The clearest example of this was seen after the erection of "The Hoose" - a place of worship found on the outskirts of Kirkmuirhill where worshippers from as far as Coalburn came to rejoice in the way of the buddha, over a 9 month period. During this time The Manzil's profit margin increased by 300%, which is the biggest rise since records began. Kirkmuirhill has some shops and a petrol station, but most people prefer to travel the distance and go to Hamilton or Glasgow. There are an abundance of take away restaurants for locals to choose from, from Indian to Chinese cuisine. There also is a sit restaurant known locally as the poachers. This restaurant also has a separate room which is used for photography shoots and pornography video shoots. It is complete with a double bed and a BDSM cage. The room is seldom available however due to frequent use by some of the more adventurous locals. Kirkmuirhill is also home to a thriving music scene, mainly consisting of rock bands. Such bands include Dana O Hara, The Shafer Commission, Norman Drummond, Left Felange, Colly and the Swedgers, Bethy and the slack flaps and Llama Funk Snarf.
