Kirkland is a village in DeKalb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,744 at the 2010 census, up from 1,166 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Kirkland is located at 42°5′29″N 88°51′1″W / 42.09139°N 88.85028°W / 42.09139; -88.85028 (42.091306, -88.850345).[1]

According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 1.23 square miles (3.2 km2), of which 1.22 square miles (3.2 km2) (or 99.19%) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.026 km2) (or 0.81%) is water.[2]

Demographics

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 1,166 people, 430 households, and 307 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,036.0 people per square mile (398.4/km²). There were 442 housing units at an average density of 392.7 per square mile (151.0/km²). 23.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.26.

In the village the population was spread out with 29.5% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 105.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $52,813. Males had a median income of $37,391 versus $22,120 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,841. About 3.9% of families and 6.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 7.8% of those age 65 or over.
