Kingston Business School is a business school located in London, United Kingdom and a part of Kingston University. It is based in Kingston upon Thames on the border of London and Surrey.

Kingston Business School offers a range of courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students. They also have a range of established doctoral research programmes; many of the courses they offer are recognised and accredited by professional bodies.[2]

The school was the first to be given a triple AMBA accreditation and is one of three business schools in the world to claim so. It also has an EFMD EPAS accreditation.

Courses

Four departments make up the Business School: Accounting & Finance, Informatics & Operations Management, Leadership HRM & Organisation and Strategy Marketing & Entrepreneurship.

Accounting & Finance

The four departments within the Kingston Business School consist of Accounting & Finance, Informatics & Operations Management, Leadership HRM & Organisation and Strategy Marketing & Entrepreneurship. Accounting & Finance Academic programmes include:

  • BA (Honours) - Accounting & Finance
  • MSc - Accounting & Finance • MSc in International Finance, Accounting with Business English, International Finance with Business English, Financial & Business Management, Banking & Finance
  • MA - Marketing & Finance, Corporate Governance, Strategic Financial Management

The Department has faculty origins in the Greece, Nigeria, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United States of America as well as the United Kingdom. .[3]

Informatics and Operations Management

This faculty provides courses and programmes designated to train its students in the following areas:

  • The science of information, the effective use of information, and the engineering of information systems as well as the application of informatics to the management of operations in business.
  • The use of information technology, as well as modelling of complex processes and systems, are key aspects of business and commerce.
  • Specialised programmes which give students 'hands-on' experience of web technologies and relevant software developments in particular.[4]

Leadership, HRM and Organisation

Members of this particular faculty department regularly speak at international conferences and contribute to academic and practitioner journals. There are close links between teaching and research, and several members of staff have written or edited key textbooks.[5]

Strategy, Marketing and Entrepreneurship

Courses and areas within this faculty include

  • Marketing
  • Corporate strategy
  • International business
  • Small business and entrepreneurship

Some of these areas are taught both on an Undergraduate level for students looking to take their first steps within business, they are also taught at a Masters level for students or experienced practitioners looking to further their skills and qualifications.[6]

Rankings

Unistats ranks Kingston Business School as UK's top 10 in business and accountancy. The Parthenon Group ranked Kingston in its top 30 list. This list looks at value added ranking based on graduate salaries. The Guardian ranked Kingston Business School 9th in a top 10 business school list for 2012.[7] The Independent's "The Complete University Guide" ranks Kingston Business school 9th out of 18 for business and management research excellence. The Good University Guide guide ranks the school 6th in London for accountancy and finance and 11th for business studies.[7] In 2008, the Research and Assessment Exercise stated that 90% of its submissions were recognised at an international standard and 10% of the research was world leading.[7]

Student life

The Kingston Hill Campus is located approximately 3 miles from Kingston Town Centre and close to Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common, and is approximately 25 minutes from central London. The Campus has study facilities for students which include Meeting pods, designated Study rooms, numerous Computer Labs, a Learning Cafe and a Learning Resources Centre; formally known as the Nightingale Centre.[8]

Also located on the Campus is a Halls of Residence to accommodate 565 students, Music Studio, Cafe, Restaurant and Bar. Sports and fitness activities at Kingston Hill include football, table tennis, golf and badminton.[9]

In addition, the University also has its own sports clubs and teams which are run by the Kingston University Student Union (KUSU).[10]
