Kim Yoo-jung (born September 22, 1999) is a South Korean actress. After her acting debut, she became one of the best known child actresses in Korea. She is now transitioning into teen roles and is best known for Dong Yi, Moon Embracing the Sun, and May Queen.

Career

Kim Yoo-jung was born in Seoul, South Korea on September 22, 1999. She was discovered at 5 years old in a contest that her older sister joined; she won the Most Popular Award even though she was not one of the contestants. That same year, she made her acting debut in the film DMZ. She continued to appear on the big screen in films such as Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, All for Love, The Chaser, and Haeundae, and in 2006, Kim also began acting on television.

Kim quickly became one of the most in-demand child actresses in Korea.[1] By the time she was a fifth grader in elementary school, Kim had appeared in 13 TV dramas and 15 movies. In 2008, she received her first acting award as Best Child Actress for action-adventure series Iljimae. This was followed by positively received performances in Dong Yi and Flames of Desire.[2] Gumiho: Tale of the Fox's Child was particularly notable for Kim, since it was the first time she played a major role who wasn't the childhood counterpart (or younger version) of the female protagonist.[3][4][5]

Her popularity increased in 2012 when she starred in the fantasy-period drama Moon Embracing the Sun, which reunited Kim with Gumiho: Tale of the Fox's Child costar Lee Min-ho and Iljimae costar Yeo Jin-goo.[6] Moon surpassed 40% ratings and gained "national drama" status. She then gave another well-received turn in May Queen. This was followed by a supporting role in 2013 film Commitment (headlined by Big Bang's T.O.P).[7]
