Kharazmi University (Persian: دانشگاه خوارزمی) (Former Name= Tarbiat Moallem University) is considered as the oldest university of higher education in Iran that named after Khwarizmi (780-850c), Persian mathematician, astronomer and geographer. Kharazmi University is a major institution of higher education, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in a variety of disciplines. It stblished in 1919 as the Central Teachers Institute and over a series of developments, finally gained university status as Tarbiat Moallem University of Tehran in 1974. It changed its name to Kharazmi University in 2010.

Today the university is one of the largest in Iran with faculties of Science, Engineering, Mathematical & Computer Sciences, Letters and Humanities, Psychology & Education, Physical Education & Sport Sciences and Chemistry.[1] The university's main campus is, since 1919, in Tehran, the secondary campus established in 1976 (in operation since 1986) is located in Hesarak, Karaj. The current president of the university is Dr. Zahra Hejazizadeh.

Campuses

The university has two campuses, one (since 1919) in Central Tehran, and one (since 1986) in Hesarak, west of Karaj. The scientific and administrative activities of the university are carried out in both Tehran and Karaj.
