Maharaja Kharak Singh (Punjabi: ਖੜਕ ਸਿੰਘ, 22 February 1801 – 5 November 1840), was a Sikh ruler of the sovereign country of Punjab and the Sikh Empire. He succeeded his father Ranjit Singh in June 1839.
Life
He was the eldest legitimate son of Ranjit Singh and Maharani Datar Kaur.
He received the principality of Jammu as his jagir in 1812, and appointed by his dying father as Heir Apparent with the title of Tika Sahib Bahadur, 20 June 1839.
He proclaimed on the death of his father, 27 June 1839, and installed on the gadi at Lahore Fort, 1 September 1839.
He was dethroned and imprisoned 8 October 1839 and replaced by his son Prince Nau Nihal Singh.
Kharak Singh became a prisoner and died from a slow poisoning on 5 November 1840.
