Kevin Penny is an English rugby league Wing for Swinton in rugby league's Championship. He has previously played for Warrington, Wakefield Trinity and on loan for Harlequins RL[2] and Widnes. Penny is also a youth level international for England.

Penny's game involves running and power, similar to Matt Bowen, Gareth Raynor and Mark Calderwood. After a Challenge Cup tie against St Helens, his play on the wing was compared by BBC commentator Ray French to Saints' South African wing of the 1960s, Tom van Vollenhoven.

Early career

Kevin Penny joined Warrington's academy in 2005 after being spotted playing basketball at school.[3]

2007 season

Kevin made his senior debut For Warrington against the Leeds on 1 June 2007 scoring two tries in a 42 - 26 defeat.[4] Shortly after his debut he received the engage Super League player of the month award for his efforts during the month of July 2007, despite starting the month with only 5 first grade games next to his name.

He scored 5 tries in just 3 games during the month, 3 of which were scored in the space of just 9 minutes against Salford. He was also named in the 2007 dream team[5] and was selected in the initial train on squad for Great Britain. Penny ended 2007 with 15 tries in 15 games.

2008 season

Kevin was given the number 5 jersey after a strong debut season and played outside Australian Test centre Matt King in a new look left side but failed to impress. Kevin is also a patron of a children's charity, the Shannon Bradshaw Trust, raising funds to help children with life threatening conditions and their families.[6]

2009 season

On 21 May 2009 Kevin was loaned out to Championship side Widnes after failing to force his way into Warrington's first team squad under new coach Tony Smith.[7]

Fastest Man in Rugby League

On 26 August 2009, Kevin competed for the title of Fastest Man in Rugby League as part of a curtain raising competition at the Carnegie Floodlit Nines.[8]

2012 season

Kevin Penny joined Swinton when Lions coach Steve McCormack signed him in November 2011 during the club's close-season player recruitment drive for the 2012 season. He has recently Re-signed for Warrington for the 2014 season
