Kevin Hearne is the author of The Iron Druid Chronicles, a series of urban fantasy novels set in present day Tempe, Arizona. The series follows Atticus O'Sullivan, the last of the Druids, as he deals with angry gods from multiple pantheons, vengeful witches, werewolves, and vampires. To date, six books: Hounded, Hexed, Hammered, Tricked, Trapped, and Hunted have already been released. The seventh book in the series will be named Shattered. Aside from The Iron Druid Chronicles (and its short stories), Hearne is also working on a Stars Wars Universe novel (featuring Luke Skywalker).[citation needed]

Career

Hearne was born and raised in Arizona. A self-described superhero comic book and science fiction (mainly Star Wars) fan, he attended Northern Arizona University and majored in English. While at school, he worked as an editorial cartoonist and feature columnist for the university newspaper. After graduation, he taught high school English in California for three years before returning to Arizona to teach for another fifteen.[1]

The Iron Druid Chronicles

The idea for the series started as a web comic that was almost sent into a contest, but Hearne decided to write a book instead. The book was eventually picked up for representation by Jill Grinberg Literary Management, and two weeks after a query was sent out, the book was picked up by Del Rey Books.[1]

Hearne credits One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey as being the inspiration for him to become a writer.[8] Aside from Kesey, he has credited Neil Gaiman, William Gibson and Patrick Rothfuss as inspirations for his writing.[9]

Hearne has plans to continue the series with a sixth book, and has said he'd like to do nine books altogether. It has since been confirmed that the series will run for a total of nine books.[3]

According to his website, in order to accommodate the release schedule for his first three books, Hearne wrote the first two sequels: Hexed in five months and Hammered in six.[1]
