Kenneth "Ken"/"Kenny" Eyre is a professional rugby league footballer of the 1960s, playing at representative level for Great Britain, and at club level for Hunslet, and Leeds, as a Prop, i.e. number 8 or 10, during the era of contested scrums. As a child Ken represented Bewerly Street school, Hunslet Schools' R.L. and Yorkshire Schools R.L.

International honours

Ken Eyre won a cap for Great Britain while at Hunslet in 1965 against New Zealand.[1]

County honours

Ken Eyre represented Yorkshire while at Hunslet against New Zealand at Castleford in 1965, against Lancashire at Swinton in 1965 and also against Cumberland at Headingley in 1965.

Challenge Cup final appearances

Ken Eyre played Right-Prop, i.e. number 10 in Hunslet's 16-20 defeat to Wigan in the 1964–65 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 8 May 1965,[2] and in Leeds' 11-10 victory over Wakefield Trinity in the 1967-68 Challenge Cup "Watersplash" final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 11 May 1968.

Rugby Football League Championship Final Appearances

Ken Eyre played in 2 RFL Championship finals. 1958-59 season at Odsal for Hunslet who lost 44-22 against St Helens. 1968 season at Odsal for Leeds who beat Castleford 16-14.

Yorkshire Cup

Ken Eyre played in 3 Yorkshire Cup finals. Hunslet 12-2 Hull KR at Headingley in 1962-63. Hunslet 8-17 Bradford Northern at Headingley in 1965-66 and Leeds 22-11 Castleford at Wakefield in 1968-69.

Club career

Ken Eyre made his debut for Hunslet in the season 1958-59. He transferred from Hunslet to Leeds in September 1966 for a fee of £5,950. He broke his arm 4 times in his opening season at Leeds.

Genealogical information

Ken married Betty Musgrave in September 1962. They had two children; Maxine and Steven, and two grandchildren; Rebecca and Caitlan.
