Kaveri Express

    Kaveri Express is a daily train running between Mysore and Chennai. This train is also known as the Mysore-Chennai Express. Numbered 16021/22, this train belongs to Southern Railway and is maintained at Chennai.

    Relevance

    This train is named after the River Kaveri, which passes close to Mysore. The train crosses the river near Srirangapatna.

    History

    This train was earlier a daily train running between Bangalore and Mysore in the opposite direction to that of Chamundi Express. To provide connectivity to Chennai from Mysore, this train was extended in 1999.

    Coach Composition

    This train has 14 Sleeper classes, two 3 tier AC, two 2 tier AC, 3 unreserved Bogies and 2 second Sitting cum luggage van from Mysore which sums to 23. At Bangalore City, the engine changes from diesel to electric.

    Chennai Central-Bangalore City=WAP 7 or WAP 4 which belongs to Royapuram Electric loco shed or Lallaguda shed. Bangalore City-Mysore junction=WDP 4 or WDP 4B of Krishnarajapuram or Hubli shed.

    Rake sharing

    It shares its rake with Malgudi express which runs between Mysore-Yesvantpur

    Timings

    This train leaves Mysore daily at 20:30 hrs to reach Bangalore at 23:30 hrs. It leaves Bangalore at 23:45 to reach Chennai at 7:35AM the next day.In return direction this train leaves Chennai at 21:30hrs to reach Bangalore at 4:00AM. It leaves Bangalore at 4:15 to reach Mysore at 7AM. The train never departs from Bangalore on time, but makes up for the same between Bangalore and Chennai.
