Katil
The Katal are a Suryavanshi Rajput clan, found in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan.[1]
History and origin
The katal clan is descent Raja Tarau, Karan, Sompal,Brishpat,Avaggyadhata, Dayadhata, Mahanhata,Beaspal,Ratanpal, Attir, Raja Sahasranu,Raja Santal,Raja Karet,Raja kood, Raja Chit,Raja Gora, Raja Bharath, Raja Bal, Raja Shaikha and his son raja Jasrath. possessed kharipur when they, driven from the plains of Punjab by Mahmud of Ghazna, settled in Mangla Devi, a fort in Jammu. One descendents of Raja karet, took to robbery in the forest near the town of Samba, and thence seized a Sambial girl, so her kinsmen gave him a large tract of land in Shakargarh Tehsil.[2] He founded the town of Katli, and his descendents were called Katal. The tribe founded 360 villages, of which a 100 are found in Gurdaspur and Narowal districts, and the remainder in Jammu. The Katals claim to be Suryavanshi.they do not intermerry with khokhar as they consider khokhar akin of descent blood.[citation needed]
In the time of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, the Katals Rao, Balel, Mal and Nihala converted to Islam.[3]
Religion
The Katil of Shakargarh Tehsil are Muslim, while those of Jammu are Hindu.
