Katie Edwards is a Florida state representative, representing the 98th district.

Eduation and personal life

Edwards earned a B.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Clemson University in 2002, and a J.D. from Florida International University in 2012.[1] Edwards passed the bar in the summer of 2013 and was sworn in as a lawyer on November 5, 2013.

Career

Before being elected to the Florida House in 2012, Edwards was the executive director of the Dade County Farm Bureau.[2] Edwards survived a major health issue during her campaign, conducting it out of a hospital bedroom.[3]

Edwards serves on the Health and Human Services Committee.[1]

Edwards introduced a bill to legalize medical marijuana, saying that it could improve the quality of life of many sick Floridians.[4] Edwards also advocates reduced jail time for substance abuse offenders, preferring rehabilitation instead for non-violent offenders.[2] Edwards stresses cost-effective justice.[3]

Edwards has been honored as a "Champion of the Elderly" by the Florida Health Care Association.[5]
