Katie Chang is an American actress, known for her roles in Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, and Birder's Guide to Everything.[1]

Early life

Chang is a native of Winnetka, Illinois, and is of one quarter Korean descent.[2] She was trained at the Wilmette Theatre’s Actors Training Center.[1] She attended New Trier High School.

Career

Chang earned praise for her portrayal of Rebecca, the group's ringleader. Rolling Stone described her as "mesmerizing",[3] while the Chicago Tribune called her a "performer of serious promise".[4] The Hollywood Reporter said she "marks herself as someone to watch",[5] and the Daily Herald noted her "impressively assured movie debut".[6] Coppola explained her choice of casting such a "fresh face" in a lead role by saying, "There's sort of a naturalness, as opposed to having worked a lot, being kid actors."[7]

After The Bling Ring, Chang starred in Birder's Guide to Everything, a 2013 movie directed by Rob Meyer that also stars Kodi Smit-McPhee and Ben Kingsley.[8] She also has a supporting role in the upcoming film Anesthesia (film), directed by Tim Blake Nelson.[9]

Personal life

Chang started attending Columbia University in the fall of 2013 with the intention of continuing acting.[10]
