Kathleen Noone (born January 8, 1945) is an American film, stage and television actress, best known roles for Ellen Shepherd Dalton on the daytime drama All My Children (1977–1989), Claudia Whittaker on the primetime drama Knots Landing (1990–1993) and Bette Katzenkazrahi on the daytime drama Sunset Beach (1997–1999).
Life and career
Noone was born in Hillsdale, New Jersey to a professional baseball player father.[1] She may be best known for her role as Ellen Shepherd Dalton on All My Children, a role she played from 1977 to 1989.She won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1987. After leaving All My Children, she was asked to play the new character of Claudia Whittaker, elder sister of Greg Sumner (William Devane) on the primetime drama Knots Landing.[2] She played the role from 1990 until the show was canceled in 1993. In the same year, she guest-starred in Frasier, playing the role of Aunt Patrice in "Here's Looking At You".
In 1997, Noone originated the role of Bette Katzenkazrahi on the new soap Sunset Beach, playing her for the show's entire duration (shy of three years) until December 31, 1999. She was nominated for Daytime Emmy Award in 1999.[3]
Noone most recently played the role of Edna Wallace on Passions.[3] She joined the show in June 2002 and, after her storyline dried up, the actress was bumped to recurring status in 2005, but she continued making recurring appearances on the show until its end in August 2008.
From 2002 to 2008 she appeared in episodes of television series Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Dharma & Greg, Supernatural, The War at Home, The Unit and General Hospital: Night Shift. She also had a recurring role as "Maggie", Jim Orenthal's mother-in-law, on the series According to Jim from 2001-2005. She is currently a member of the Playwrights Kitchen Ensemble at the Coronet Theatre in Los Angeles.[4]
In 2010, she was a guest star in three episodes on Showtime series Dexter as Maura Bennett. She also appeared in two episodes on Showtime comedy-drama United States of Tara in 2010. She starred in the 2011 comedy film About Fifty.
