Pageants

Connors won the Miss Iowa USA title on December 13, 2009.[1] She was previously a runner-up in the 2009 and 2008 competitions and made the top ten in the Miss Iowa Teen USA 2007 pageant.[2] Connors represented Iowa in the Miss USA 2010 pageant held in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 16, 2010 but did not place.[3]

Miguel Batista incident

Connors after throwing the ceremonial pitch
Connors gained national attention in July 2010 after a comment from Washington Nationals pitcher Miguel Batista led to her throwing a ceremonial pitch at a Nationals game. In a previous game Batista was announced as the replacement started for Stephen Strasburg who was injured.[4] The crowd booed Batista as he walked onto the field, which lead to him commenting after the game, "Imagine if you go to see Miss Universe, then you end up having to watch Miss Iowa. You might get those kind of boos".[5] When Connors replied in a statement, "I know I can throw a pitch or two! The question is, can Miguel Batista walk the runway in a swimsuit?" Batista sent her flowers and she was invited to throw a ceremonial pitch at Nationals Park on 30 July 2010.[6][7] Batista has been invited to judge the 2011 Miss Iowa USA competition.[4]

Personal life

Connors graduated from Davenport Assumption High School in 2007 and is a nursing student at Scott Community College.[2] In July 2012 Connors was selected to the 2012-2013 NBA Atlanta Hawks cheerleading squad.
